Early Words Together has been developed by the National Literacy Trust in response to the post-pandemic recovery. The course runs once a week for five weeks. It is a  fun course for parents / carers and children to attend teaching songs, books, rhymes and activities’ you can do with your children at home to promote language and learning together at home.

Early Words Together is proven to:

Increase children’s language development

Underperforming children who take part in Early Words Together catch up with their peers in their understanding of spoken language in just three months.

Improve the home learning environment

86% of parents who take part in the programme report they now talk more to their children – and two-thirds feel more confident about sharing books with their child.

Improve parental engagement

73% of parents and carers who took part in Early Words Together now read with their child every day – up from 53% at the start of the programme.

Help the families most in need

Families who read the least often at the start of the programme show a 91% increase in reading frequency by the end.

"I think even if you're a parent that reads to their child frequently, EWT offers great tips to help grow your child's interest and participation in story time."

"We are playing more than before indoors by using simple materials like boxes to build something using our imagination and make up stories."

"We appreciate how easy the course material was able to be incorporated into our reading at home. Also, I know our child always found it quite special that we were able to share their nursery time with them."
